What is an Affiliate Link?
When we include a link to a product, service or accommodation booking site and you click it and make a purchase, we receive a small commission from the merchant — at no extra cost to you. The price you pay is identical whether you use our link or navigate directly to the site.
Affiliate commissions are one of the ways we fund WildDevon and keep it free to use. They help us cover the costs of hosting, research trips and writing time so we can continue producing independent guides to Devon's outdoors.
Our Affiliate Partners
We currently have affiliate relationships with the following companies. Each relationship is described below.
We are a Sykes Cottages affiliate partner. When you book a holiday cottage through Sykes via our links, we earn a commission. Sykes Cottages is one of the UK's largest cottage booking platforms, offering thousands of properties across Devon and the rest of the UK. Commission earned does not affect which properties we recommend or how we describe them.
We are a Booking.com affiliate. Hotel, B&B and accommodation bookings made through our links may earn us a commission. Booking.com's affiliate programme operates under the Booking.com Partner Programme terms. As with all our partners, any commission earned has no bearing on how we present or describe accommodation options.
We are a participant in the Amazon Associates Programme, an affiliate advertising programme designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by linking to Amazon.co.uk. We include Amazon affiliate links for outdoor gear, camping equipment and other products we recommend in our guides.
We may include affiliate links to Surfdome for surf and outdoor gear. Purchases made via these links may earn us a commission. Surfdome stocks a wide range of surf, outdoor and lifestyle brands and is a popular choice among the Devon surfing community.
How This Affects Our Content
Affiliate relationships do not influence our editorial content. We do not write positive reviews of accommodation or products in exchange for commissions. We only recommend places, services and products that we believe are genuinely useful to our readers. If we would not visit a beach, stay at a campsite or use a piece of kit ourselves, we will not recommend it regardless of whether an affiliate relationship exists.
Where we include affiliate links alongside honest editorial content, we will always clearly label the link. Affiliate links are identified with rel="sponsored" in the HTML and where visible to readers are marked as affiliate links in the surrounding text. We aim to be transparent so you can make fully informed decisions about the links you choose to click.
Google AdSense
In addition to affiliate links, WildDevon carries display advertising served by Google AdSense. These are paid advertisements that appear in designated slots on the page. AdSense uses cookies and interest-based targeting to serve relevant adverts to visitors. See our Privacy Policy for details on how to control or opt out of interest-based advertising.
AdSense revenue, like affiliate commissions, helps us keep WildDevon free and independent. Advertisers have no input into our editorial content.
No Pay-to-Play
We do not accept payment for editorial coverage. Businesses, accommodation providers and tourist attractions cannot pay to be featured in our guides. Our walk routes, beach guides and activity recommendations are based entirely on merit — on whether we think a place is worth visiting and worth telling our readers about.
This is not a sponsored-content platform. Every beach we feature, every walk we describe and every campsite we recommend has been assessed on its own terms.
If we recommend a beach, walk, campsite or product, it's because we think it's genuinely worth your time. Commission structures and affiliate relationships are a necessary part of running a free, independent website — but they never determine what we say about anything.
